Enter Metaverse and NFT, Paris Saint-Germain Apply for Trademark
Previously, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), a French football club with a large following in Europe, was interested in having a presence in the metaverse, and is now securing its name for use in this ecosystem.
PSG filed a series of trademark applications seeking to establish a brand on several virtual memorabilia and trading cards, all authenticated by a Non-Fungible Token (NFT).
The trademark application, introduced March 16, includes downloadable audio and video recordings, downloadable multimedia files containing text, audio and video related to sports highlights, as well as items for offline and online use.
All items are authenticated via NFT. In addition, PSG also includes a cryptocurrency wallet software in this application.
Michael Kondoudis, a patent attorney who shares the news on social media, said the filing represented the next logical step to protect brands as they move to the Metaverse.
“Obviously, PSG sees the potential of the Metaverse and is preparing its trademark for the virtual economy that will dominate it,” Kondoudis said, quoted from Bitcoin.com, Thursday, March 31, 2022.
PSG is not the first European football club to recognize the importance of the metaverse as an alternative to expand its reach and seize new business opportunities.
