Pizza restaurant Papa John plans to give nearly 20,000 Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT) to customers in the UK.

A total of 19,840 NFT collections have been printed at Tezos and come in nine different pizza delivery hot bag designs. This is not Papa John’s first foray into the world of crypto and blockchain.

The Pizza restaurant chain last year launched a promotion where customers can win 10 Pounds worth of Bitcoin (BTC) when customers shop for more than 30 Pounds. This was reported by Yahoo Finance, Sunday (20/3/2022).

The promotional campaign runs counter to the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority, which considers it “irresponsible” for taking advantage of consumers’ lack of experience or trust and under-investment in cryptocurrencies.

Papa John has a long-standing relationship with cryptocurrencies due to the famous incident of an early Bitcoin user spending 10,000 BTC on two Papa John’s pizzas in 2010. Bitcoin, worth USD 41 or around IDR 590,543 at the time.

This is not the first time that fast food restaurants have entered the crypto world. United States-based fast food restaurant chain Shake Shack is experimenting with rewarding cryptocurrency to its customers.

This gift giving is based on the fast food company that has partnered with Block Inc and will give gifts in the form of Bitcoin to its customers.

Previously, American music and entertainment company, Billboard, had revealed that it had partnered with Universal Music Group (UMG) to tap into the burgeoning NFT ecosystem.

The company revealed on Wednesday it would launch an NFT project called Chartstars. Later the NFT compilation will use the Flow blockchain.

Billboard further revealed that NFT Chartstars will feature officially licensed art and creatives including short visual clips from the music video, and album photography.

“The launch of Chartstars marks Billboard’s first scalable NFT product aimed at music fans. Chartstars will be an artist-focused collection of digital artwork that commemorates achievements and milestones on the Billboard Charts,” the company said, quoted from Bitcoin.com, Thursday, 17 March 2022.

Collecting and gamification will be built into the platform via collector and utility leaderboards built into smart contracts, including special access at Billboard live events. The first Chartstars products are expected to be available for purchase in May.

Universal Music Group (UMG) also recently revealed it partnered with Curio’s NFT marketplace in mid-February. UMG launched the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) entertainment project in mid-November last year.

UMG’s executive vice president of digital strategy, Michael Nash, said: “Billboard is pioneering a new way for music fans to connect with artists.

“Dengan memanfaatkan grafik ikoniknya untuk koleksi digital yang menarik ini, Billboard menciptakan cara baru yang inovatif bagi artis dan penggemar untuk merayakan pencapaian unik dan momen budaya,” kata Nash dalam sebuah pernyataan, Rabu.
